Founded by the Rennich brothers from Creston and an Albertan investor, Imasco has supplied mineral products to western Canada and the northwestern U.S. for almost 50 years. It began in 1962 with a dolomite mine in Crawford Bay and a granite mine and crusher 40 km south in Sirdar. The enormous room and pillar dolomite mine ships approximately 50,000 tons per year, all done by four miners employing mechanical methods. The dolomite is used in products as diverse as stucco, exterior insulation finish systems, drywall mud, soil conditioner, decorative garden stone and nutritional supplements for cattle.
Over the years, Imasco has acquired additional mines in Salmo, Vancouver Island and Surrey, B.C., employing up to 60 people.
